Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 June 2026

Elite IV is a companion app for Pokémon GO. It scans appraisals to read IVs and CP, runs calculators, and lets you log and sync your collection. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it. We collect as little as possible and we don't use any third-party analytics or advertising.

Who we are

Elite IV is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Niantic or The Pokémon Company. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@eliteiv.app.

What we collect

You can use the core calculators and scanner without an account. Data is collected in the following situations:

  • When you sign in. Elite IV uses Google Sign-In. We receive a unique Google account identifier, which we store to recognise your account. Your email address is kept on your device so we can show which account you're signed in as; it is not stored on our servers.
  • When you sync your collection. If you sign in and sync, we store the Pokémon data you've saved. This can include species, nickname, CP, IVs, level, moves, status flags (shiny, lucky, shadow, etc.), and any details you choose to add such as a catch location, catch date, and custom tags. We also store the small thumbnail screenshots Elite IV keeps from each scan.
  • Diagnostics. Elite IV can send diagnostic reports to help us fix bugs and improve scanning accuracy. These include crash details (stack trace, app version, device model) and scan diagnostics — the data read from a scan together with the screen images captured during that scan. In the standard release these uploads are off by default and you control them in Settings; in beta builds they are always on (see Beta builds and diagnostics below). If you are signed in, reports are linked to your account so we can follow up; otherwise they are anonymous.
  • When you join the beta. If you submit your email on our website, we store that email address (and a note of where the signup came from) so we can send you a beta invite.

Scanning and your screen

To read appraisals, Elite IV captures your screen while scanning and runs the text recognition on your device. In the standard release, your captured screen is not sent to us: only the resulting Pokémon data, and the thumbnails you save, are uploaded — and only if you choose to sync. Diagnostic uploads of scan images are off by default and can be turned on or off in Settings.

Beta builds are different. While you are testing a beta (pre-release) version of Elite IV, diagnostics are always on and cannot be turned off for the duration of the beta. Beta builds automatically upload scan diagnostics to us — the data read from each scan plus the screen images captured during that scan (both the raw capture and an annotated copy) — along with crash reports. We use this only to debug and improve the scanner. The images are of the Pokémon GO screen you are scanning and may incidentally include whatever else is on screen at that moment, so avoid scanning while sensitive information is visible. If you are signed in, these uploads are linked to your account; otherwise they are anonymous. The public release keeps diagnostics opt-in and off by default.

How we use your data

  • To create your account and sign you in.
  • To store and sync your collection across your devices.
  • To diagnose and fix crashes and bugs, and to improve scanning accuracy.
  • To send you a beta invite if you asked for one.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third parties

We keep external services to a minimum. The ones we use are:

  • Google — for Google Sign-In, to verify who you are. Your use of Google Sign-In is also subject to Google's own privacy policy.
  • Discord — when you sign up for the beta, your email and signup source may be sent to a private Discord channel to notify our team.

We don't include any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs in the app or on this website.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not use tracking cookies. If our beta signup endpoint is briefly unreachable, your email may be stored in your browser's local storage so it isn't lost; you can clear it at any time through your browser. On your device, the app stores your sign-in tokens and email in encrypted local storage.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and synced data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your user record, synced Pokémon, saved images, and sign-in tokens are permanently deleted from our servers. Diagnostic uploads (crash reports and scan diagnostics, including the captured screen images) are kept only as long as needed to investigate and fix the issue and are deleted when no longer useful. To request deletion, contact us at privacy@eliteiv.app.

Children

Elite IV is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
